LAS VEGAS — Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi is jumping in to the ultra-thin TV game.
The company introduced a new smart TV, the Mi TV 4, during a press event at CES Thursday. The ultra-slim set is just under 5 millimeters thick, making it the company's thinnest TV yet.
SEE ALSO:Nvidia is bringing Google Assistant to your TVSince it is so thin, the television ships with a dedicated soundbar that houses the Mi TV's speakers and other components. The soundbar connects to the TV via a single cable.
Available in 49-, 55- and 65-inch varieties, it is set to ship in China later this year for "well under $2000 USD," Xiaomi's Hugo Barra said during the event, though he didn't reveal an exact price.

The soundbar is also equipped with Dolby Atmos technology, which enables more three-dimensional surround sound. It will also be compatible with older sets from the company so those who have previously purchased TVs from the company can upgrade their sound and software.
But the standout feature of the TV is how thin it is. At 4.9 millimeters, the set is thinner than an iPhone, though it's still thicker than the 2.57 millimeter OLED set LG just unveiled. Also, unlike LG's set, which is the same thickness throughout the body of the TV, Xiaomi's Mi TV 4 is thicker at the bottom to accommodate the optional base.

The company said it intentionally designed the base to look transparent so it would appear as if it were "floating" wherever it is placed.
The sub $2,000 price tag is also likely to be significantly cheaper than LG's TV, which hasn't been given a price yet. Of course, as with other Xiaomi products, the Mi TV 4 will only be available in China when it goes on sale later this year.
