The nation is reeling after the killings this week of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling and the Dallas sniper attacks that left five law enforcement officers dead.
In Dallas on Friday, Police Chief David Brown held a prayer service in Thanks-Giving Square Park to honor the victims. Shortly afterward, local residents lined up to thank their police officers and give them hugs.

"It’s overwhelming,” Senior Cpl. Monica Cordova said. “We were overwhelmed with grief. Now we’re overwhelmed with gratitude."
The experience seems to have provided a small degree of comfort and hope to both the officers and the residents who reached out.
