Elon Musk is officially the biggest loser ever, at least when it comes to losing personal fortune.
Guinness World Records, a global organization that keeps track of all sorts of record achievements, said so in a blog post after Forbes assessed that Musk lost a total of $183 billion.
To be fair, making $320 billion, which was Musk fortune at its peak in Nov. 2021, is a record achievement of its own. But things have turned sour for Musk since then – Tesla shares, of which he still owns plenty (despite selling them frequently in the past year), have plummeted, and Musk's $44 billion Twitter acquisition only made things worse.
With his current net worth of about $137 billion, Musk also lost his status as the world's richest man; the honor now belongs to LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) founder Bernard Arnault, who owns an estimated $190 billion.

While Guinness World Records is aware that it's impossible to accurately assess the exact number for Musk's fortune loss, the organization says that it is surely far greater than the previous record, set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son, who recorded a $58.6 billion loss in 2000.

Notably, if it weren't for Musk, another tech mogul would've claimed the record. According to Forbes, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos lost $85 billion in 2022, and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg lost $77 billion. Don't worry, though: None of the above are likely to go hungry any time soon, as their personal fortune is still measured in tens of billions.
