如菜刀僅傷及皮膚 ，出血很少 ，可用幹淨紗布壓迫一下 ，然後貼上創可貼;如割傷很深 ，出血較多 ，則應采取一係列措施 。第一步是找根細繩 ，在傷指的上一關節處結紮處 ，以阻斷動脈血供 ，找塊幹淨的紗布覆蓋傷口 。然後將傷手高舉過頭 ，由家人急送醫院作進一步處理 。
緊紮傷口的細繩應該每隔15~20分鍾放鬆一次 ，每次2分鍾 ，以防傷指壞死 。如果切傷手指的菜刀已生鏽 ，應向醫生說明 ，讓醫生考慮是否需要注射破傷風抗毒素。如此1周內完全愈合 。
