當被問到葡萄牙對陣烏拉圭誰更有可能獲勝時，桑托斯說道 ：“如果從過往的表現來看 ，烏拉圭更出眾 ，但如果按照現在的世界排名 ，我們可能會贏球 。”值得一提的是 ，上一屆世界杯16強賽 ，葡萄牙正是被烏拉圭淘汰出局 。
另外 ，韓國隊主帥保羅-本托也是一名葡萄牙人 ，並且曾與桑托斯有過短暫的師徒關係。
