The DoorDash app is no longer just for ordering pizza or late-night snacks — it'll now help you check if you have the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, without leaving your house.
The food delivery app teamed up with two home testing kit companies to offer the self-administered tests on-demand. Both test kits should arrive the day you order them through DoorDash's DashMart, its digital convenience store that carries products from places like 7-Eleven, and CVS, and can be ordered whether or not you're showing symptoms.
There are two options on the app: One test is from Vault Health, which is a saliva test kit for $119, and the other is from Everlywell, a lower nose-swab test for $109. You should double-check before ordering, since the cost of the tests may be reimbursable through your insurance as a COVID-related expense.
With both tests, you mail out your samples using the mailing boxes and overnight shipping labels that come with the kit, and results are promised by email within a day or two.

To take the saliva test, you have to be supervised by a Vault medical staffer via video while spitting into a tube. The nose swab you can do solo — and you don't have to jab the swab all the way into your brain. Both of the tests are of the PCR variety; that's a polymerase chain reaction procedure to detect certain genetic material. Vault and Everlywell both use this type of testing, which is considered the best detection method for COVID.
Starting Monday you can order the kits on the DoorDash app in 12 U.S. cities including Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City.
