這個小組大局已定 ，沙特隊、日本隊 、澳大利亞隊競爭小組前三 ，沙特隊領先澳大利亞隊5分 ，以及甩開日本隊4分 ，下一輪沙特隊客場對陣日本隊 ，隻要取勝 ，即可甩開日本隊7分 ，提前兩輪鎖定小組前二 ，隊史第6次晉級世界杯決賽圈 。
對比沙特隊 ，國足表現沒有改善 ，積分落後人家14分 。本輪0:2完敗日本隊後 ，落後出線區9分，幾乎沒有希望 ，下一輪隻要澳大利亞隊拿分 ，將送國足提前兩輪無緣世界杯 。
這也意味著 ，2月1日大年初一晚8點，客場與越南的比賽將成為國足的“榮譽之戰” 。
