Lil Wayne came under fire earlier this year for his remarks that suggested he had never experienced racism in his life. Now the rapper is facing similar criticism for his comments regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.

In an interview with Nightline that premiered on Tuesday night, the rapper sat down with reporter Linsey Davis to discuss music, marijuana, skateboarding and BLM.

The segment shows the New Orleans rapper looking puzzled when the topic of Black Lives Matter is brought up.

"What is it? What do you mean?" he asked, before Davis explained.

"That just sounds weird," he said. "I don't even know why you put a name on it. It's not a name, it's not whatever, whatever. It's somebody got shot by a policeman for a fucked up reason.

"I am a young, black, rich motherfucker," he explained. "If that don't let you know that America understand black motherfuckers matter these days, I don’t know what it is.

"Don't come at me with that dumb shit, ma'am. My life matters, especially to my bitches," he continued, before adding that he "doesn't feel connected to a damn thing" that doesn't involve him. "If you do, you crazy as shit." Shortly afterwards, he walked out of the interview.

Many fans were puzzled by the rapper's remarks, and expressed their thoughts and disappointment on Twitter, causing "Lil Wayne" to trend on the platform.

In July, rapper A$AP Rocky was also scrutinized for his remarks regarding racial justice when he said "all lives matter" before attempting to draw comparisons between the Black Lives Matter movement and Bill Cosby's sexual assault charges.

However, Lil Wayne's current statements seem to contradict the message of support the rapper gave towards the movement in August, where he was not shy about proclaiming "black lives matter" while on stage. (The Nightlinesegment was filmed over a three year period).
