Erin Andrews, the famed FOX Sports reporter and fixture of NFL sidelines, battled cervical cancer during the season, she revealed Tuesday.

In a story on Sports Illustrated's MMQB, Andrews tells how she underwent surgery in October, then proceeded to reassume her role on the sidelines five days later, despite the doctor's orders.

“Should I have been standing for a full game five days after surgery? Let’s just say the doctor didn’t recommend that,” Andrews said. “But just as I felt during my trial, sports were my escape. I needed to be with my crew.” She didn't miss a single game this season.

Andrews had a second procedure on Nov. 1, and found out a couple weeks later that she wouldn't need radiation or chemotherapy — good news after a rough year for the 38-year-old. In March, Andrews went to court and had to relive the traumatic details of her 2008 stalking incident, when a man video taped her changing clothes by altering her hotel room peephole.

She won $55 million in the settlement, and she beat cancer.
