此後 ，郑智主帅知数卡納瓦羅曾在天津權健（天海）執教一個賽季 。率隊取得一定成功後 ，他再度受邀拎起廣州隊教鞭 。
從2017年底“二進宮”至今 ，卡納瓦羅用了3年多時間落實了廣州隊“更新換代” 。以楊立瑜 、韋世豪 、高準翼等球員為代表的年輕一代漸漸成長 。但這份改造工作也付出了巨大代價 。比如，球隊在2018賽季 、2020賽季兩次無緣中超冠軍 。
其實過去幾個賽季裏 ，圍繞卡納瓦羅與俱樂部分手的傳聞此起彼伏 ，不過雙方經過慎重考慮還是決定嚴格履行約定 。
但在俱樂部母公司恒大集團遭遇巨大經濟危機的背景下，廣州俱樂部已無力承擔卡納瓦羅及其教練團隊成員的高額薪水 。從官宣內容看，雙方已經協議分手 。
廣州隊接下來何去何從比卡帥去留問題更值得各界關注 。據悉 ，球隊接下來將暫由功勳隊長鄭智負責帶隊工作 。
至於廣州足球俱樂部還能支撐多久 ，目前無人能給出確切答案 。廣州隊何時重新集中 ，也是未知數 。
