Capcom is bringing the first six games in the Mega Manseries to Android and iOS devices next month. The infernally challenging side-scrolling classics from the NES era will sell for $1.99 apiece.
SEE ALSO:'Pokémon Go' players have walked around the earth more than 200,000 timesIt sounds like all six releases will be direct ports of the original games. Capcom's announcement notes that "each game has been optimized for the mobile devices with adjustments to game speed," but there's no mention of any other changes.
While there's no question that the games will functionon mobile platforms, the decision to release them for touchscreen devices raises questions. Are virtual controls really an adequate replacement for physical inputs in games that are so reliant on precise timing and sharp reflexes?
This isn't Mega Man's first mobile appearance. A Mega Man IIport was released in 2010 for the iOS App Store and the SNES game Mega Man X-- which is not part of the upcoming collection -- followed in 2012.
Both releases have received generally positive user reviews, though many of the critical comments are directed at each game's controls. If you're eyeing these newly announced mobile re-releases excitedly, you might want to also check out some smartphone friendly game controllers as well.
There's no release date for the six games and no mention of a bundle price for those that wish to pick up all of them in one go. But you can sign up right here for email updates if you want to be kept in the loop.
