They play Troy and Rose Maxson, a married couple living with Troy's brother and two sons (one by Rose and one from a previous marriage). In this short scene, from the very beginning of the story, Troy describes meeting Rose for the first time, all those years ago. 。

In August Wilson’s original play, Troy faces an internal conflict over his son Cory pursuing a career as an athlete -- something that Troy himself dreamed of but was unable to achieve due to systemic racism in the MLB. The resultant tension ripples through the family, including Rose.。Fences 。
