範加斯特在球員時代司職中衛和後腰 ，在效力費耶諾德期間曾擔任球隊隊長 ，並隨隊獲得荷甲冠軍、荷蘭超級杯冠軍。他曾為荷蘭國家隊出戰5場 ，攻入2球 。
退役後的範加斯特在荷蘭費耶諾德U19隊開始了自己的教練生涯 ，2011年起擔任荷甲費耶諾德隊助理教練 。2020年初 ，範加斯特隨老搭檔範布隆克霍斯特加盟廣州城俱樂部 。“上賽季廣州城足球俱樂部在技戰術體係的構建和精神麵貌的革新方麵初顯成效 ，範加斯特先生功不可沒。”廣州城俱樂部表示 。
