Street Fighter V players have purchased enough DLC to bump up the 2016 Capcom Cup's prize pool by almost $100,000, making this year's tournament the most lucrative one yet.

Capcom put up a baseline of $250,000 and took a page out of Valve's playbook, offering DLC to fans and putting some of the proceeds toward tournament winnings.
The Capcom Pro Tour DLC includes a stage, Ring of Destiny, player titles, a themed color option for all characters, and costumes for Chun-Li, Cammy and Necalli. Necalli's costume was chosen by the 2015 Capcom Cup winner Kazunoko, and this year's winner will be able to choose a character to receive a new costume too.

For every Capcom Pro Tour DLC purchase, 30 percent of the cost goes to the Capcom Cup prize pool, while another 50 percent goes to Capcom Pro Tour production. Capcom has made about $300,000 in total from the game's CPT DLC.
The different DLCs range from $5.99 for a single character costume to $24.99 for the whole bundle.
When these prices were announced, some players took to the internet to say the DLC is too expensive. Redditors called the DLC outrageous and overpriced. Other DLC costumes in the game cost $1.99-$3.99, while stages cost $1.99 compared to the $9.99 CPT stage.
This new initiative is all about making the prize pool bigger, Capcom's director of digital media and esports Neidal Crisan said in the blog.
The goal is to reach $150,000 raised by players, giving the 2016 Capcom Cup a prize pool of $400,000.
The DLC won't be available forever -- Capcom is discontinuing it in November before the December tournament.
